Valmont Zero Emission Pole - ZEP

ZEP - Zero Emission Poles

Conserving Resources. Improving Life.

Much more than a tagline, the Valmont, “Conserving Resources. Improving Life.” core philosophy is at the heart of the organization’s business activities.

With the poles and structures Valmont produces, the company strives to contribute to a better environment through sustainable practices. An excellent example of this effort is the Valmont Zero Emission Pole which is available upon request across the European and African continents.

The Zero Emission Pole is a CO2-neutral lighting, traffic, or telecom pole which Valmont offers in steel, aluminium, or wood. For each of these materials, 100% of CO2 emissions are neutralized by Valmont’s participation in the Trees for All program. To date, approximately 25,000 jatropha shrubs have been planted with Valmont’s participation in this program (offsetting the equivalent of 1,245 tonnes of CO2).

Why Jatropha?
These shrubs have been chosen by the organization because of the many environmental benefits they offer:
  • The crops need little care and water. (Jatropha can live for 3 years without water)
  • The deep roots help prevent erosion.
  • Hedges made from Jatropha protect crops from animals.
  • The fruit can be harvested after 1 year.
  • Jatropha oil can also be used to produce a biodiesel known as 'green gold'.
  • Fruit from Jatropha is often used in traditional medicines.
Valmont is now able to offer all its products as a ZEP (Zero Emission Pole) product to its customers. These CO2 neutral columns are supplied complete with a certificate. For more information, please contact a Valmont representative in your area.
